Fun Filled Summer School
We will be having four weeks of fun-filled summer school this year.

Week 1 is Family-Fun-Camp, July 6-10.  Bring the whole family or just send the kids to enjoy a week of summer games, arts-and-crafts, water fights, hanging out, and magical summer fun. (If at least one parent attends with their children then the entire household may be enrolled for only $125 plus one registration fee of $25.  Parents will be asked to bring at least one activity game.)

Week 2 is Mix-it-Up-Make-Believe-Camp, July 13-17.  Each day of this week has its own theme and activities.  Come and play with us!  Monday is Pirates, Tuesday is Olympics, Wednesday is Superheroes, Thursday is Knights and Princesses, and Friday is Tropical Paradise.

Weeks 3-4 are Camp-Creativity, August 10-14 and August 17-21.  Join us for one or two weeks of artistic creations inspired by the summer sun or whatever muse we choose to channel.  This week is dedicated to music and artistry, but there will of course be no shortage of free play.

Tuition, registration and other information:  Tuition for all VFS summer school programs are $100 per week per student, plus a non-refundable $25 registration fee per week per student.  Tuition is due on the first day of camp.  All camps run from 9:30-3:30.  Children must be between the ages of 5 and 18 to register.  Call for more information 503-788-3935

Mission

Our mission is to empower tomorrow’s leaders to become independent, creative, and conscientious citizens capable of thinking for themselves and collaborating with others to create a better world.

Our learning environments honor freedom, promote responsibility, and nurture the well-being of each student and the community.  Students are supported and challenged to find meaning in their lives, adapt to the world as it is, and prepare for the world in which they want to live.

"Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

Who We Are:
The Village Free School is a non-profit school for youth 5-18 and their families.  The students at our school choose what they want to learn and how they want to spend their time.

Our advisors encourage students to ask questions, explore, and play as we nurture their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical health.  We know that when kids learn the art of problem solving in a holistic way, their skills can be applied to any subject.

We honor the primary attachments of youth with their families and value the dignity and worth of students, staff, families, and volunteers alike.

We share what we learn about active youth participation and self-determination with educators and advocates around the world.

What We Offer:
The VFS is built upon the concept that children of all ages learn from each other, and so our school is not segregated by age or grade, which allows for significant peer mentorship.

Advisors work in partnership with students to help them direct their learning and find the resources needed to accomplish their goals.  The low staff to student ratio (1:8) allows for individualized plans to accommodate different learning styles and varied interests.  Students pursue a wide variety of study based upon their own passions, and are able to continue with a subject until their curiosity is fully satisfied.

We're Different:
We offer vibrant and interactive spaces to study, play, and share.  Students are not required to follow a schedule dictated by standardized curriculum or  testing.

Children are naturally drawn to skills that will serve them in life, such as reading, problem solving, conflict resolution, critical thinking, and leadership.  We don’t label or compare students against one another.  Assessment or grades happen when students and staff find them helpful and agree to make use of them.

The Village Free School  is a place where your child will be supported, challenged, and taken seriously.

We invite you to come visit!
